Do I need to fast?
Fasting is not required for hormones, but we recommend having your blood drawn in the morning between 7 and 10 o'clock, testosterone is at its highest then and most suitable for interpretation.
What is the difference between total and free testosterone?
Total testosterone measures all testosterone in the blood. Free testosterone measures the active, unbound fraction. SHBG partly determines the ratio between the two. The combination gives a more complete picture than total alone.
What if I take testosterone medication?
With testosterone replacement therapy, the values mainly reflect the medication. Please let us know so we can adjust the interpretation accordingly.
Is this package suitable for women?
No, this package is designed for men. For women, the Essential Hormones Female package is available.
What if my values are abnormal?
Our doctor provides explanation and context for your result. You can use the report for your own insight or bring it to conversations with your GP.
What if I want to measure more specific markers?
Through Bloodworks Select you can add additional markers such as DHEA-S, oestradiol, or cortisol.
How does this relate to a PSA test?
This package measures hormones, not PSA. For PSA monitoring (often relevant from age 50+), you can add PSA as a separate marker or consider a broader men's health package.
