Ordering & payment
How do I order a blood test?
Choose a package on our website and click "Order". Enter your details and pay securely via Stripe (iDEAL, Klarna, Visa or Mastercard). You'll receive a confirmation email immediately.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept iDEAL, Klarna (pay later), Visa, Mastercard and other common payment methods via Stripe. All transactions are SSL-secured.
Can I change or cancel my order?
Administrative changes, such as your personal details or collection point, are free of charge as long as your request can still be adjusted.
If you cancel within 24 hours of your order and the laboratory request form has not yet been processed or sent, you receive a full refund of the purchase amount.
If you cancel after that, but before the blood draw, work has already been carried out, such as the medical review and processing of your request. In that case we charge €25 in administration and processing costs. The remaining amount is refunded via the original payment method.
After the blood draw, or after the statutory cooling-off period has expired, a refund is in principle no longer possible.
Would you like to cancel your order? Please contact us at support@bloodworks.nl and include your order or reference number.
What if Bloodworks or the laboratory cannot deliver?
If Bloodworks or the laboratory cannot provide the service and cannot offer a suitable alternative, you receive a full refund or you can choose a free new request. This does not apply where provision becomes impossible due to, for example, incorrect details or not following the laboratory's instructions.
Do I receive an invoice?
Yes, you'll automatically receive an invoice by email after payment. Do you have a business account and want an invoice in your company name? Select the business invoice option at checkout.
Can I deduct the blood test as medical expenses?
Preventive blood tests not prescribed by a doctor are typically not tax-deductible. Consult your tax advisor for your specific situation.
Blood draw
Do I need to fast before the blood draw?
For the most accurate results, we recommend 8 hours of fasting (no food, but water is fine). This is especially important for glucose and triglycerides. For packages without these markers, fasting is not required but recommended.
Where can I get my blood drawn?
Bloodworks works with 800+ collection points across the Netherlands: GP practices, pharmacies and independent blood draw centres. You can visit a number of locations without an appointment. View all locations on our locations page.
Do I need a form for the collection point?
Yes. After ordering and payment, you'll receive a lab form by email. Print it out or save it on your phone and bring it to the collection point.
How long before should I fast?
We recommend at least 8 hours of fasting. A cup of water (no coffee, tea or juice) is allowed. You can take your medications as usual unless your doctor says otherwise.
Can I choose which collection point I use?
Yes. Use our location finder to find a collection point near you. You can choose which location works best for you.
Results & report
How long until I get my results?
Typically within 2 working days of your blood draw. For some specialist tests, the turnaround time can be up to 10 working days. As soon as all results are complete, you receive your report by secure email.
How do I receive my report?
Your personal PDF report is sent by secure email. The report is written in plain language with a doctor's interpretation of each value.
Are my results compared with reference values?
Yes. Your report shows your values alongside the reference values used by the laboratory, including a doctor's explanation of what any abnormalities mean.
Can I share my report with my doctor?
That is entirely your own choice: you have autonomy over your own data. We greatly value primary care. General practice is a wonderful and valued profession, but also a very busy one. That is why we try to relieve GPs and colleagues in primary and secondary care as much as possible, by having our medical team interpret your results as thoroughly as possible for you. However, we are not a treatment provider and we do not remove you from regular care. Sometimes the advice is to follow up on a particular value with your regular care provider; we handle this with great care.
What do I do if a value is abnormal?
Your report contains an interpretation of and advice on abnormal values. Where possible, we interpret and advise. Sometimes, however, further history taking, physical examination or additional testing is needed; we advise you on that too where necessary.
Medical & privacy
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
No. You can order directly without a referral. Bloodworks offers preventive blood testing on your own initiative.
Who interprets my results?
Your report is interpreted by BIG-registered doctors with extensive experience in general practice, bariatric medicine, internal medicine and laboratory medicine, among other fields.
Is Bloodworks certified?
Bloodworks works exclusively with certified laboratories (ISO 15189) and BIG-registered doctors.
How do you handle my personal data?
We process your data in accordance with GDPR. Your medical data is never shared without your consent. Read our full privacy policy for more information. Questions? Send a message to privacy@bloodworks.nl.
Ready for your blood test?
