FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to fast?
Fasting is not strictly required for Lipoprotein(a) and Apolipoprotein B. If combined with a lipid panel, we do recommend fasting.
What is Lipoprotein(a)?
Lipoprotein(a) is a largely hereditary particle that can raise the risk of cardiovascular disease, independent of your cholesterol. It is usually a one-off measurement.
What does Apolipoprotein B add to cholesterol?
Apolipoprotein B counts the number of risk-bearing particles rather than only the amount of cholesterol. This can give a finer picture of your risk.
Do I combine this with the Cholesterol panel?
Yes. The Cholesterol panel gives the standard lipid picture; Extended Heart and Vessels adds hereditary and fine-grained risk. Together they form a complete cardiovascular picture.
How quickly do I receive my results?
Typically typically within 2 working days of blood draw.
